Our Approach to Learning
Learning at Quantum Academy is designed to move beyond memorization. A Strong Academic Foundation
Young learners need a strong foundation to explore big ideas with confidence. At Quantum Academy, literacy, mathematics, and science are taught with purpose and depth, helping students develop essential skills while understanding how their learning connects to the world around them.
Literacy
Students develop strong foundations in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through explicit instruction, rich literature, meaningful discussion, and opportunities to communicate their own ideas.
Mathematics
Students build number sense, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills through explicit instruction, purposeful practice, and opportunities to explain their thinking and apply mathematics in meaningful ways.
Science
Students investigate the natural and designed world through observation, questioning, experimentation, and discovery. Science learning encourages children to gather evidence, test ideas, solve problems, and develop explanations based on what they observe.
STEM at Quantum
STEM at Quantum Academy is not a separate activity—it is a way of thinking and learning. Students bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics together to investigate questions, solve authentic problems, design solutions, test ideas, and learn from what happens next.
SCIENCE
Students observe, investigate, experiment, and use evidence to understand how the world works. They learn that good science begins with curiosity and grows through careful questioning and discovery.
TECHNOLOGY
Students use age-appropriate tools and technology to explore ideas, gather information, create, communicate, and solve problems. Technology is used purposefully—as a tool for learning and innovation, not simply for screen time.
ENGINEERING
Students imagine, design, build, test, and improve solutions to meaningful challenges. They learn that mistakes are part of the design process and that perseverance, creativity, and revision can lead to better solutions.
MATHEMATICS
Students use mathematical thinking to recognize patterns, measure, compare, represent information, and solve problems. Mathematics becomes a practical tool for making sense of ideas and supporting decisions throughout the STEM process.
Learning Through Projects & Discovery
Project-based learning gives young children a reason to use what they know. Students explore meaningful questions and challenges that bring together skills from across the curriculum. They might investigate a problem, make observations, read and write about what they discover, use mathematics to gather or compare information, create a solution, and share what they learned.
What Might This Look Like?
A question such as “How can we create a garden that helps butterflies?” could lead students to read about plants and insects, observe and record what they notice, count and measure, compare possible solutions, design a garden plan, create a model, and explain the thinking behind their choices.

Meeting Each Child Where They Are
Every child brings unique strengths, interests, experiences, and areas for growth into the classroom. Small class sizes allow teachers to know their students well, respond to individual learning needs, provide appropriate support, and offer greater challenge when a child is ready for it.
